Not being able to hear your teacher can disrupt your lesson, but it's usually caused by a simple setting that is easy to fix. If you are having trouble with audio, please follow these steps in order.
Step 1: Check Your Main Audio Connection in Zoom
This is the most common reason for audio problems.
When you first enter a Zoom lesson, a pop-up window appears. You must click the blue button that says "Join with Computer Audio" to connect your microphone and speakers.
To save time in the future, you can also check the box at the bottom of this pop-up that says, "Automatically join audio by computer when joining a meeting."
Step 2: Check if You Are Muted or Your Volume is Low
Check Mute in Zoom: Move your mouse inside the Zoom window. Look at the microphone icon in the bottom-left corner. If it has a red line through it, it means you are muted. Click it to unmute.
Check Your Computer's Volume: Look for the speaker icon on your computer's main taskbar (usually at the bottom right on Windows or top right on a Mac). Make sure the volume is turned up and not muted.
Step 3: Select the Correct Speaker in Zoom
If you have multiple audio devices (like headphones and computer speakers), Zoom might be sending the sound to the wrong one.
In the Zoom window, find the microphone icon in the bottom-left corner.
Click the small **up arrow (^) ** next to the microphone icon.
A menu will appear. Under the "Select a Speaker" section, you will see a list of available devices.
Click on a different speaker from the one that is currently selected (for example, if it's on your headphones, switch it to your computer's built-in speakers, or vice-versa). You should hear the sound immediately once you select the correct one.
Step 4: Try a Different Device
If the problem continues after trying all the steps above, the issue may be with your computer's hardware or a connected device.
Unplug and Re-plug: If you are using external headphones or a microphone, unplug them and plug them back in firmly.
Switch Devices: Try using a different set of headphones or using your laptop's built-in speakers and microphone directly.
